Grade 10 - Renaissance

Writer's Café

2015

Ink

21cm x 29.7cm

I remember when I first met you,

Sipping coffee in a corner booth.

You were twirling your hair,

And I just had to stare,

For a minute or two.

I was laughing at you stack of books,

Then you shot me that smile.

Hey beautiful girl, in your own little world,

Let me in it...

"Nothin' Like You"

For this unit, I have made three final prints.  I was inspired by my past year with the personal project of writing a book, and I wanted to continue writing.  I set the scene at a cafe (inspired by the song "Nothin' Like You" by Dan + Shay) with a lot of greenery (inspired by the movie Letters to Juliet) with a more sophisticated and regal feel to it (inspired by the movie Monte Carlo).  The entire print was inspired by the watercolours by Inslee Haynes.  The entire reason for these prints was to express myself and my personality.  The print is of myself, growing as a writer, as well expressing who I am, a girl who is bubbly yet calming as well.  I used dry etching on acetate as well as blue ink in order to create the print.  In the future, I would love to continue with this media, and I hope to create more detailed and delicate prints, experimenting with different colours of ink as well.
